Built by Dr. Thomas Walker and his men as they were exploring the western wilderness seeking land for settlement (1750).

Our gorgeous county is nestled gently in the Appalachian Mountains, where the people are calm, friendly and down to earth.  It is the place you would definitely want to raise your family!  With our dedicated labor market, ever growing infrastructure, Knox County is the place you would want to start or move you business!   

We are progressive in education with three school districts -- Barbourville Independent, Corbin Independent and Knox County.  In each district we educate our future leaders with some of the best teachers in the Commonwealth. This commitment to education we hold so near and dear stems from our four-year liberal arts college boasting its heritage as well as its history – Union College.

Along with two golf courses, some other attractions include the first house in Kentucky – Dr. Thomas Walker State Historic Site,  Battle of Barbourville Reenactment (First Civil War skirmish in Kentucky), the oldest annual festival in Kentucky – Daniel Boone Festival, Redbud Festival, Award-winning Knox County Museum, Barbourville Water park, Daniel Boone Memorial Park, Dizney Mountain Rodeo, and Kentucky Community Crafts.
